10 Things I've Learnt From Planning A Wedding

So you may have noticed that things have been pretty quiet on the old blog front recently, well that's because I've been planning my wedding! As I also work full time wedding planning seems to have taken the place that writing my blog used to. We get married in a couple of weeks (omg) and touch wood I'm feeling pretty okay about everything. I kind of feel like I'm at the right point to write about what I've learnt from the process, because boy oh boy have I learnt a lot. Planning a wedding is an absolute rollercoaster and when I'm on the other side I'll let you know whether the stress is all worth it (which I'm told it totally is). So without further ado here is what I've learnt so far.

1. I'm a real perfectionist. I think I always kind of knew this because of how anal I am around my Instagram images but the wedding has really shown me how I'm not really happy with something unless it's exactly how I want it in my head. I don't think theres anything wrong with being a perfectionist but I think maybe knowing when to let stuff go is a good thing to learn as well, which I definitely have through this process.

2. Everything costs a lot of money, like a lot! Because I've had friends who have gotten married, I knew roughly how much things would cost, but my god weddings are expensive. If something is for a wedding, expect to pay 3x the normal price you would normally pay. The way that we managed this was we chose the things we knew we wanted to spend the money on and splurged on them and then tried to save on other bits. For example, after the venue we're probably spending the most money on flowers, but that's because I absolutely love flowers so much and because of the style of wedding and venue we will have we just feel that they will make such a big impact.

3. Pinterest will become you best friend. I could not even tell you how many hours of my life I have spent on Pinterest, I just know it would be ridiculous. I would say it's probably one of the best places for getting inspiration from for everything from flowers, bridesmaid dresses to what style of wedding you would want. It honestly is perfect for wedding planning.

4. Rock My Wedding is the best thing ever! After Pinterest I would advise that any new bride to check out Rock My Wedding. On part of their website they feature 3 new weddings everyday and it's honestly the best inspiration ever. I would say it probably where most of my inspiration for our wedding has come from as they only feature the most stunning weddings and you can see how to style different parts of the wedding. We are planning to have a lot of different sections to our wedding as all the inspiration has either come from this website or Pinterest.

5. I've really appreciated the people in my life - I've been so over whelmed by how much people want to help with the wedding. My mum has been absolutely amazing, and I'm not sure I could have planned a wedding without her and then my bridesmaids have also been so helpful. People really just want to help in anyway they can and it's so so lovely.

6. People love to talk about a wedding. This kind of ties into the point above but everyone loves to talk about a wedding. This can be quite hard when you're having a stressful week but it is also absolutely lovely as well because people are genuinely so happy for you and so interested in hearing about the big day.

7. There is a lot to plan and think about. I know this goes without saying but there really is a ridiculous amount of planning that goes into arranging a wedding. I don't know if it's because I'm such a perfectionist but I am planning every single tiny last detail and I think I'm doing this because when I take blog photos I know what a huge difference a tiny thing can make. My plan though is to make sure everything is taken care of up until the day before and then on the day just forget about it and have fun, because I will have done everything I can do.

8. There will be highs and lows. There have been times where I've absolutely loved planning the wedding and then times that I've been so ridiculously stressed that I just don't think I can do it all (but I think that is mainly because I also work full time and run my blog and generally have too many things on). Just know though, if you're planning a wedding and are going through a low it get easier and things will fall into place.

9. If you're creative you'll love making all the little bits and bobs. I have to say, my favourite parts have been when I've physically been making some of the DIY bits. I love being creative so this has been my absolute favourite part of the wedding, which is probably why I've spent so much time on Pinterest!

10. There is a wedding to fit every style. What I found really hard when I first starting was I couldn't really find a wedding that would work for what myself and Tristan wanted, and then after some research and chatting to people I realised that you can essentially make your wedding fit to you. We're doing a few things a bit differently but I think it's important to make your wedding as personal as you can because when it comes down to it, it's your big day with the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.

So those of the things I've learnt so far. I'm planning to do a bunch of different blog posts actually after the wedding as I've found other peoples posts so useful, so keep an eye out for those. Also let me know if there is anything specific that you would like to see around wedding content!

Benefit's Beauty Kits

Benefit Christmas Gift Sets

If you've been reading my blog for a while you will know that I've been a fan of Benefit products and their kits for years. Before I started the blog Benefit gift sets were always on of my favourite beauty gifts to receive around Christmas and Birthday's because when they're products are shrunk down to miniatures they're absolutely adorable and generally the aesthetic of the gift sets are so pretty.

The ones in the pictures above are probably some of my favourite gifts sets. I love the Feeling Dandy Lip & Cheek set because it's absolutely adorable, it contain the prettiest pink blush and then miniaturesof High Beam, Posietint and the Dandelion Lip Gloss.

The other gift set, which is equally as beautiful, is the Sugarlicious Lip & Cheek Kit, which is so stunning if you love mauve shades. The set contains the Sugarbomb blush and bronzer compact, which is the most stunning mix of brown and deep pink and gives such a lovely bronzed glow to the cheeks. It also contains the Subarbomb lipgloss and then the classic High Beam (because no Benefit set is complete without it) and Benetint.

The last kit featured is from their Brow range, which if you've read this post you'll know how much of a fan I am of their brow products. The set I've been loving is their Bigger and Bolder Brows Set, which contains Ka-BROW (one of my personal favourite brow products) and High Brow, which I find makes an incredible difference to how my brows and eyeshadow look as it just seems to tie everything together. The set also contains Ready, Set Brow which is a really natural looking setting gel and also brow stencils and stencil holder to help you do professional looking brows!

Bobbi Brown Skincare

Bobbi Brown Skincare

I've recently fallen head over heels for Bobbi Brown skincare, and it's completely transformed my skin. I'm pretty dubious when it comes to trying out skincare from a brand that has always been known for making make up, as more times that not, they get it so wrong what they don't stick to what they know. Bobbi Brown, however have absolutely nailed the transition into skincare. Over the past few months, in the run up to the wedding I've been really trying to pin down my skincare routine to something that I'm really happy with and during the process I've been trying out so many bits from Bobbi Brown.

I'll start with the products that I think have made the biggest difference to my skin. Firstly, I've been using the Soothing Cleansing Oil every evening and I've noticed such a difference in my skin. I've found that overall the texture is much more even and my skin just generally looks super hydrated. It contains a real mix of different oils, which I think it what makes my skin feel super soft and hydrated. The second product I'm really impressed with is the Skin Relief Calming Complex serum from the Remedies range. I started using this probably able 2 months ago and I cannot tell you the difference it has made to my skin. I used to have so many red and blotchy patches on my forehead and cheeks and this just completely eliminates them. I also use it on my neck and chest area if I get a bit of redness there, as that also works really well. I've used a few of the other serums from the Remedies range, and they're all really great but I'd say this is the stand out product for me.

Next up is the Skin Salve Restoring Treatment, which is a hard sort of balm that works absolute wonders on dry patches of skin. I have a really strange, raised dry area of skin on my cheeks and this is slowly getting rid of it. It has a very balm like texture and sort of acts like a protect shield to any dry areas of skin. This is really good if like my you have random patches of super rough dry skin.

Other products I've used from the range are the Extra Repair Serum, which is good if you generally have dry skin. I find using this in combination with the Cleansing Oil really helps to restore moisture back into the skin. I've also tried the Hydrating Face Tonic, which I would say is my least favourite from the range, as I didn't find it made too much of a difference to my skin.

Overall I am really, really impressed with the skincare from Bobbi Brown and I think the fact that 3 things have worked their way into my almost daily routine speaks volumes.

Have you tried any products from the range, and is there anything you think I need to try next?

Häagen-Dazs Strawberries and Cream

Häagen-Dazs Strawberries and Cream

Summer is now officially in full swing and with that so is Wimbledon and the season of tennis. Being someone who absolutely loves anything quintessentially British I always truly look forward to Wimbledon and everything that comes with it from the strawberries and cream to the many jugs of Pimms. There’s nothing better than celebrating summer by watching the worlds very best tennis players play for the most prestigious title in the sport. I’ve never been lucky enough to attend Wimbledon, but it’s definitely on my list of things I would love to do at some point in my life. Most years I either watch the matches at home or head to the pub and watch with friends over pimms and fizz, which I guess isn’t too bad!

Häagen-Dazs Strawberries and Cream

Now although I didn’t manage to secure tickets to the championship this year,  you may have seen on my Instagram that I recently attended the very glitzy and star-studded WTA pre-Wimbledon launch party at Kensington Roof Gardens with Häagen-Dazs to celebrate the launch of their new Strawberries and Cream limited edition ice cream bar. The event was held on the most perfect summer evening with full access to the roof gardens that allowed the players, celebs and tennis lovers to enjoy some sunshine whilst sipping champagne and eating as much ice cream as possible.

As I mentioned I love anything truly British and I couldn’t think of anything more fitting than a strawberries and cream ice cream to bring a playful twist on the Wimbledon classic whilst paying tribute to the much adored flavour pairing of The Championships. The delicious treat is made with handpicked strawberries, the Häagen-Dazs signature luxury ice cream, and enveloped in a rich Belgian chocolate coating, if that doesn’t get you excited I’m not sure what will! Along with the limited edition flavour,Häagen-Dazs have also partnered with Bjӧrn Borg to create the limited edition packaging for the ice cream bar. The limited edition Bjӧrn Borg  designed box has the official championship logo on the front and tennis balls filled with swirls of strawberries and cream, which makes for the perfect Instagram picture!

As Häagen-Dazs are the official ice cream of the Wimbledon Championships and WTA this year, their limited edition strawberries and cream ice cream will be available at The Championships for everyone to enjoy. If like me you haven’t managed to get your hands on tickets, then fear not as the single serve ice cream is available to order on Amazon Prime Now. This offers customers in selected postcodes a choice of a two-hour, same day delivery slot to experience Wimbledon where ever you are. However, if like me you and you can’t stop at just one ice cream (I may or may have not had 3 or 4 at the party) then you can buy the multi-packs from Sainsbury’s to stock up your freezer until the end of July.

How have you been celebrating The Championships and have you tried the limited edition ice cream yet?

Fragrance is such a personal thing, which is why I often find it quite difficult to write fragrance reviews, because what I absolutely love may not be what you guys love. I really tailor the fragrance I wear depending on the weather, my mood and what I'm wearing. For example if I'm wearing a summer dress I'll go for a scent that reminds me of summer and being on holiday.

A Guide to New York

As I'm sure you've all seen that I recently went on a trip to New York, and quite frankly I imagine you're all sick to death of my pictures, but I just can't stop posting them! I've been to New York quite a few times now and each time I post a little summary of my trip so this time I wanted to put together a guide to New York as I've now got quite a few tips to share!

Clarins Summer Collection

Ever since I started blogging I don’t think there has been a year that I have missed the Clarins summer launches. They’re by far my favourite summer launch from all the beauty brands and each year they just totally nail it and this year is no different.

For this summer they’ve gone with the whole palm tree and beachy feel with all of the packaging having layers of palm trees on them over a mahogany, brown background. It feels very Miami esque and I love it. As with all of their past summer launches, they have of course brought out a new Summer Bronzing and Blush Palette, which for me is the highlight of all of their summer collections. This year, it’s a slightly lighter bronzer, which I really like and is divided into 4 different sections each containing a slightly different shade of terracotta to help you tailor the level of bronze you want to go, which is perfect for holidays where your skin tone changes on a daily basis.

I’ve mentioned how I love their Comfort Lip Oils before (post here), and they are extending this line by adding 4 new shades/variations. My favourite is the Honey scented one with very tiny gold flecks of glitter, which add a subtle amount of shine to the lips. The other 3 new shades are a bright pink tint, a cherry red shade and then a blue tinged mint shade, which is meant to slightly plump the lips.

Moving onto eyes, they have launched a brand new 4 Shadow Palette all with very beachy, summery shades. There is a beautiful burnt orange and then 3 very neutral brown and beige shades. Extending to their already existing 24 hour waterproof liner family, there are two absolutely stunning golden bronzed shades, which are so soft to apply and blend out.

Finally, they have launched a new Mattifying and Pore Perfecting Foundation, which comes in 3 new shades and gives the perfect amount of coverage for a beach day or just if you don’t want to wear a lot of make up in the heat.

Skincare For Dry Skin

Skincare for dry skin

My skincare has recently had somewhat of a revamp. This has coincided with the change in season, a change in my diet and also there have just been some really amazing skincare launches lately. In terms of the brands I’ve been using, I am still sticking with old favourites like Clarins and Triology as I don’t think that will ever change, but I’ve also been discovering a few new brands like Immuncologie and Oskia to add to my collection.
