A Guide to New York

As I'm sure you've all seen that I recently went on a trip to New York, and quite frankly I imagine you're all sick to death of my pictures, but I just can't stop posting them! I've been to New York quite a few times now and each time I post a little summary of my trip so this time I wanted to put together a guide to New York as I've now got quite a few tips to share!

Ever since I started blogging I don’t think there has been a year that I have missed the Clarins summer launches. They’re by far my favourite summer launch from all the beauty brands and each year they just totally nail it and this year is no different.

For this summer they’ve gone with the whole palm tree and beachy feel with all of the packaging having layers of palm trees on them over a mahogany, brown background. It feels very Miami esque and I love it. As with all of their past summer launches, they have of course brought out a new Summer Bronzing and Blush Palette, which for me is the highlight of all of their summer collections. This year, it’s a slightly lighter bronzer, which I really like and is divided into 4 different sections each containing a slightly different shade of terracotta to help you tailor the level of bronze you want to go, which is perfect for holidays where your skin tone changes on a daily basis.

I’ve mentioned how I love their Comfort Lip Oils before (post here), and they are extending this line by adding 4 new shades/variations. My favourite is the Honey scented one with very tiny gold flecks of glitter, which add a subtle amount of shine to the lips. The other 3 new shades are a bright pink tint, a cherry red shade and then a blue tinged mint shade, which is meant to slightly plump the lips.

Moving onto eyes, they have launched a brand new 4 Shadow Palette all with very beachy, summery shades. There is a beautiful burnt orange and then 3 very neutral brown and beige shades. Extending to their already existing 24 hour waterproof liner family, there are two absolutely stunning golden bronzed shades, which are so soft to apply and blend out.

Finally, they have launched a new Mattifying and Pore Perfecting Foundation, which comes in 3 new shades and gives the perfect amount of coverage for a beach day or just if you don’t want to wear a lot of make up in the heat.

Skincare For Dry Skin

Skincare for dry skin

My skincare has recently had somewhat of a revamp. This has coincided with the change in season, a change in my diet and also there have just been some really amazing skincare launches lately. In terms of the brands I’ve been using, I am still sticking with old favourites like Clarins and Triology as I don’t think that will ever change, but I’ve also been discovering a few new brands like Immuncologie and Oskia to add to my collection.

The Rosewood Hotel in London, is a hotel that I have wanted to stay in for absolutely ages and this month I finally got to stay there! I was kindly invited by the lovely team from Juicy Couture to celebrate the launch of their new Viva La Juicy Sucre fragrance, which is a super fun, sweet and playful perfume. If you've ever seen the outside of the Rosewood hotel, you will agree that it is absolutely stunning, and the inside is just as beautiful. My room had the most enormous marshmallow bed and possibly the most stunning bathroom I've ever seen in my life. The bathtub was made entirely from marble and I managed to squeeze in 2 baths during my stay to try and make the most of it. The vanity was also made from marble with a beautiful hammered metal sink with the most perfect lighting for doing make up and of course mirror selfies. It's essentially my bathroom of dreams!

As part of the event we attended a lovely dinner in the private dining area of the Mirror Room, which is an absolutely beautiful dining room in the Rosewood. Luckily the dinner didn't go on for too long as we had some time afterwards to enjoy our rooms before going to sleep.

The next day I had the nicest lie in and then indulged in some breakfast in bed, which if you order room service I'd totally recommend getting the smoked salmon bagel. After breakfast I took a nice long Lush bubble bath, because you gotta make the most of a marble bathtub and then totally pigged out on the most delicious Biscuiteers Valentine's Day biscuits. If you haven't heard of the Biscuiteers before they're the cutest London bakery that do the most beautiful biscuits ever, as you can see from the images above. They kindly send me a box of their Valentine's Day box and I couldn't think of a better place to eat them.

If you ever need a hotel to stay in whilst in London, or just fancy somewhere to eat I couldn't recommend The Rosewood Hotel enough.

Personalised Valentine's Day Gifts

Not everyone is a fan of Valentine's Day, but I'm all far a whole dedicated day to celebrate the person you love the most. As much as I love Valentine's Day, I don't think it necessarily needs to be limited to your significant other and I'm all for extending the love to friendships too. With this in mind, I have partnered with Boots UK this year to send my blogger bestie, Emily from Blog Me Beautiful a personalised fragrance to show how much she means to me.

The reason I chose Emily to receive this gift is because she was probably one of the first blogging friends I made in the industry around 3 years ago and we've been friends ever since. I of course have other blogging friends that I've made along the way, but the reason why Emily means so much to me is because we became friends at a time where I would go to blogging events and not know anyone and as soon as we met we just had the most fun together. The first time we met was at The White Company event, and we bonded immediately as we both work in the scientific field and spent the rest of the evening drink champagne and chatting.

Another reason why our friendship is so special is because sometimes in the blogger world it's quite hard to find true friendships or people that you have a lot in common with, and I've been very lucky to not only find Emily but also some other lovely bloggers.

As I mentioned, I have partnered with Boots UK for this post as this Valentine's Day they are offering a personalised engraving service on gifts to give to that special someone in your life. I chose to send Emily the timeless Miss Dior fragrance as I know she loves this and a girl can never have too many perfumes! I added her name to the bottle as the little personal touch as I really do believe making something personalised makes any gift more special.

To show you what the engraving service looks like I chose the beautiful Giorgio Armani Si fragrance and had it engraved with my blog name, which I think looks really lovely.

If you're looking to treat that certain someone in your life this Valentine's Day have a look at the gift section in Boots UK and make that present a little more special.

Making The Most of January

As much as January is somewhat of a depressing month I personally kind of love it as it feels like a blank page and a completely fresh start to do whatever you want. December is such a crazy busy month so I love that there are very few plans in January as lets face it, we all need a bit of a break after Christmas. I always like to use the first few months of the year to do just whatever takes my fancy and really make the most of the quietest month and most depressing for some people.

This weekend was the first free weekend to ourselves since I think October, so we decided to go for a lovely chilled walk in Battersea. Walking around London on the weekend is probably one of my favourite things to do even though it can be quite busy, it's a different kind of busy to during the week. The weather at the moment has been absolutely freezing, but the cold misty days are so beautiful to photograph. I've recently got a new camera, the Olympus Pen and I've been absolutely loving playing around with it and it's sparked my love for photography all over again, so I'll definitely be using this month to make the most of my new camera.

Another good thing about January is because it's such a quiet month for most people, it's such a good time to just plan spontaneous things with friends without having to book in it months in advance. I've been doing this with a few of my close friends and it's so nice to have to wait weeks and weeks to book something in.

The last thing I've been doing to take advantage of the quiet weekends is really knuckling down and planning my wedding. We've basically done all of the big things but I've been spending hours in the evening and the weekend getting lost on Pinterest. I'm trying to figure out how to really translate the romantic and rustic vibe that I have in my head, which is harder than I thought.

2016 Summary and 2017 Goals

I always like to start the new year by reflecting on the previous year and thinking about what I achievedand what I would like to achieve in the new year. I apply this to every aspect of my life including my blog, friendships, family life, relationship and work life. This is absolutely something that can be done throughout the year but January just feels like a fresh start and the perfect time to evaluate my life.

I thought I would share a few of my goals for the year as I always find it so inspiring to hear other peoples aims for the year and I think it really helps to write you goals down.

Wedding
This year is the year I get married, which actually feels crazy to say out loud. I'm actually not feeling too stressed about the wedding at the moment because I've organised the main aspects of the wedding like the venue, photographer, flowers and dress (eeep!). Now I just need to organise the little bits like the decorations and the fine details which is what I think make a wedding - so over the next few months I'm going to be pinning furiously to my Pinterest! My main aim for the run up to the wedding is to not expect too much, now that sounds awful, but it't really not. I tend to get too excited by things and even if they're amazing, they don't ever live up to what I imagined and I would hate for this to happen with my wedding! This also means it will allow me to enjoy the day without worrying about all the little things.

Blog
This year I would really like to fall in love with my blog again. I feel like 2016 was the year for Instagram and being someone that loves photography I absolutely threw myself into this and it really did pay off, but I think my blog took a bit of a back seat. I would like to go back to posting at least once a week every week as I'm feeling so inspired for blogging at the moment. I'm also really happy with my blog design which I changed towards the end of last year because I just didn't love my old one anymore.

Photography -
Photography is always something that I've been passionate about and it's why I will always love blogging as it really helped me to find this hobby. In 2017 I would absolutely love to try and improve on my photography, I've just bought a new camera and an amazing lens and it's completed sparked my love and excitement for taking pictures again.

Exercise
2016 was definitely the year where I found out the kind of exercise that I love to do, which is spinning, but my work outs were too few and far between towards the end of the year and with a wedding coming up I really want to pick this up again. It's a new year cliche but I'd also like to eat a bit healthier, this Christmas has left me feeling really not great about what I eat and I'd love to make interesting healthy meals that I enjoy eating.

Cards
Something I've never been very good at is buying people cards, I'm fine at buying birthday cards but I mean like New House, Congratulations and all the cards in between. I think I'm quite a considerate person but this is just something that I always have to work really hard on and I'd love for it to come a bit easier.

Travel
When I think back to 2016 I really did travel to a lot of beautiful places and I would absolutely love to build on this in 2017. Travelling has always been something I'd been passionate about and I think this also links into my love for photography but theres a few places that I'd love to tick off my list this year including Italy (for ALL the food), the Maldives and Switzerland.

This post ending up being a really big word vomit post, but I think it's so important to write down your goals and what you wan to achieve because then you really start to visualise them.
