Nails Inc- Queen Victoria Street

Queen Victoria Street from Nails Inc- Potentially my new favourite bright shade. When it comes to nails I tend to stick to my reds, pinks and nudes but I feel like when I have a manicure I should try shades that I don't own or wouldn't normally buy. I really love this shade, it has hints of turquoise and blue in it making it the perfect emerald green. This shade is from their new range which you can buy on it's own or in a set with the glitter- perfect for party season.

Grazia at John Lewis Event

Last week myself and a few friends popped along to see Lily Pebbles talk all things beauty at the Grazia for John Lewis beauty event. We were greeted with a glass of champagne and told to peruse the various beauty stands and try out all their latest products. Our first port of call was to sign up for the Nails Inc manicure as we annoyingly missed out on the manicures at the last event.

I opted for a new green colour from their new collection that I wouldn't normally try with a glitter statement nail. Considering I normally stick to nudes and pinks I really loved this colour and was so so happy to find it was in the goodie bags!

After spending some time playing we new products we then heard a talk from two lovely ladies from Grazia and Lily Pebbles. They each spoke about their favourite products for the summer and answered questions from the audience. I love events like this where you have chance to have one-to-one chats with the experts- you get to form relationships and ask questions that you wouldn't ask in a large group.

After the event myself, Tara and Katie headed out for a few drinks and nibbles at Meat Market, which is just at the back of Oxford Street.
We had a lovely night from start to finish, met new people and tried new goodies.

Elite Model 2013- Colgate

Last week I was invited to attend the unveiling of Elite Model's 2013 search for the new face of Colgate MaxWhite One. After searching the breadths of the UK and Ireland the Elite team managed to narrow their search down to just 10 girls of whom we would watch strut their stuff on the catwalk.

After drinking a few well needed cocktails (mainly to cool down) and catching up with fellow bloggers were we lead into the main hall to watch the models final fashion show before the big reveal.

After all the girls had done their thing it was announced that Ashling O'Dwyer would be the new face of MaxWhite one- a well deserved winner with both beauty and great teeth.

Once the show was over we headed to the after party for some well deserved champagne, nibbles and dancing.

Considering that most of the girls had never walked a runway before I was so impressed with how professional they all looked and held themselves. Although Ashling was a well deserved winner I think all the girls should be so proud of how far they all came out of the hundreds of girls they were up against.
A big well done to you all.

Wishbone Review

On Saturday my boyfriend and I finally went to Wishbone in Brixton. It's been on my to-do for months and I've been told by so many friends how amazing it is so I had high hopes for this little fried chicken shop.
It's a fast-food joint placed in the middle of the buzzing Brixton Market (which I've raved about before)and normally has quite the queue but I think we went at the right time.

Before getting stuck in we cooled off with a coke and iced strawberry daiquiri.

We thought we'd share so that we could try a little bit of everything.

We chose the beautifully cooked sticky buffalo wings with blue cheese sauce and carrot and pickled celery.

Salt and pepper fried thighs with tangy Asian mayo. This is essentially a 10x better version of KFC's popcorn chicken and probably a little bit better for you- it is still fried chicken though. These beauties disappeared very quickly.

A big pot of peppery slaw, which T quickly polished off.

A huge packet of real American skinny fries for only £2.50!

And then a portion of deep fried mac 'n' cheese- these were something else. I didn't think I could love mac 'n' cheese anymore than I already do until I tried them deep fried...

Oh wow.

My only suggestion would be that they needed a little more seasoning but when you add a dollop of the marinated sauce it's perfect.

We both agreed that we loved every part of this meal and would definitely return. We actually preferred Wishbone to the Rum Kitchen for both the value for money and food.
I'm fast becoming a huge fan of these low key little places in Brixton, you're always guaranteed a fun buzzy night.

Hakkasan Review

Recently one of my lovely friends very kindly took me out for an incredible lunch at the world famous Hakkasan. I'd previously heard great things about Hakkasan for their amazing food and inventive cocktails so was excited to give it a whirl.
We visited the Hanway Place branch just off Tottenham Court Road only identifiable by these huge black and gold detailed doors.

To start we had a mixture of prawn, beef, scallop and asparagus (not shown) dim sum. Oddly, I'd never tried dim sum before so I was really intrigued by these gooey filled parcels. I wasn't a huge fan of the prawn variety but loved the beef and scallop with asparagus.

We followed our dim sum with grilled honey sea bass with tempura mushrooms. This was incredible! I'm a huge fish lover anyway but this was really amazing. The fish was perfectly moist and the honey glaze was beautifully sweet and sticky. We were meant to be sharing everything but I think I probably ate most of this

We also tried the stir-fry ostrich in yellow bean sauce. I'd never tried ostrich before so had no idea what to expect but it was very tender and had quite an interesting taste. I probably wouldn't order ostrich again in any hurry but that's purely because it didn't blow me away.

For desert we ordered a selection of ice creams with a huge wafer and a fruit platter. The ice cream was rich and creamy but aesthetically it was nothing compared to the fruit platter...

This is one of the prettiest dishes I've ever seen- a real mixture of delicious tropical fruit and beautiful flowers. I couldn't get enough.

I was so impressed with Hakkasan, the food was incredible in both taste and presentation and the attentive waiters meant we never had to fill up our green tea or water once. As I was feeling a little under the weather I didn't get to try any of their famous cocktails but that's definitely something on my to-do list as I've heard they're great.
If you're looking for a restaurant for a special occasion this definitely fits the bill. Even their toilets were impressive with harry potter-esk huge gold taps and doors disguised as walls.
Well done on your restaurant choice, J.
