Escaping to the Country

As much as I love the hustle and bustle of London, it’s always so nice to run away to the country for a weekend. Especially when the sun is shining and it’s a Bank Holiday.

This weekend my boyfriend and I headed to Lincolnshire with his family for some much needed R&R. We spent our days lying in the garden and drinking homemade peppermint tea,

And walking around the hundreds of acres that surround the cottage. Upon one of our walks I found my dream house which I’ve told T he needs to buy me if we ever move out of London. It’s a cross between a mini manor house and the house from the Notebook.

The weather was so beautiful all weekend and made heading back to the city that much harder, but at least it’s only a 4 day week!

Selfridges Beauty Box

After the excitement of receiving your first few beauty the boxes the novelty wears of pretty quickly. Most of them are full of products that you wouldn’t ordinarily buy or you try them once and realise why you haven’t bought them before. However, the new beauty box from Selfridges is in a different league all on its own. It’s completely jam packed with decent sized products that most people would buy or already own.

The box costs £25, so a little more expensive than normal beauty boxes but it’s worth over £70 and full of products that beauty junkies will actually use and love.

The box contains:
- Aqua Splash Tangle Teezer- a Tangle Teezer that you can use in the shower and beach
- Models Own Neon Nail Varnish- perfect for the summer
- Caudalie Beauty Elixir 30ml
St. Tropez Instant Glow Face Lotion 50ml- a subtle instant tan for the face
- Molton Brown Aqua Shower Gel 100ml
- Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray 50ml- again, perfect for the summer and beach
- Jane Tran Hair Clips
- Erborian BB Cream 12ml
Lancaster After Sun 40ml- helps to keep you sun kissed for longer
- St. Tropez exclusive in-store offer card (a beach bag with purchase)

I couldn’t love my Tangle Teezer any more if I tried and having one that I can use at the beach seemed like a perfect idea. I’d been wanting to try the Caudalie Beauty Elixir and Bumble and Bumble surf spray for a while now so for me, buying this beauty box was a no brainer.

You can order your beauty box here and either get it delivered for £4.95 or Click and Collect at your nearest store.

Garrison Public House

This weekend I wanted to go to the Riding House Cafe as a number of people had recommended it (including Time Out), however as I left it very late to book for a Saturday night all the tables had been reserved, so we decided to give their partner restaurant, The Garrison a go.
I really like rustic simpleness of all of these chains and the menu seemed like it wouldn’t disappoint so I was actually quite excited to go. Plus, its situated on Bermondsey Street, which is fast becoming one of my favourite areas for drinks.

To start with I went for the duck with caramelised onions and rocket on toasted bread. The duck was lovely, and went quite well with the onions and rocket, however the toast was rock hard, I couldn’t cut it for the life of me (and neither could my boyfriend) so that was disappointing as I had to leave half of the dish. T had the venison pate and toast which he enjoyed and he could actually eat his toast.

For the main I had Lamb rump with asparagus, slow-roasted tomatoes and sauce aux girolles, which was very nice and much better than my starter. T had the 8 oz steak of the day with tomatoes and chips (which I kept stealing). As lovely as my new potatoes were, I wish I’d opted for the chips as they were amazing. Probably the best part of the meal.

As well as the main restaurant and bar they also have a private dining room and cinema, which could be quite fun with a group of people.

All in all, I wasn’t really blown away with The Garrison and probably wouldn’t go again and the food didn’t impress me but the staff and atmosphere made the evening enjoyable. Garrison on Urbanspoon

Afternoon Tea at The Langham

On Sunday, myself and two friends thought we would treat ourselves to a little afternoon tea at the Langham Hotel. I’m such a sucker for an afternoon tea, it’s one of my favourite things to do and there’s so many places to go in London that you can always find one to fit your budget. The afternoon tea at the Langham is one of the more expensive ones that I’ve been too with their selections starting at £40. However, even though it’s quite pricey you do get a lot for your money as throughout the 2 hours you plates and glasses are filled up with sandwiches, cakes and tea until you’re were ready to pop.

We opted for the Wonderland Langham Afternoon Tea, which came with a selection of finger sandwiches, the most beautifully decorated, delicate cakes, tea, champagne and scones with jam and cream.

The staff couldn’t have been more polite and attentive and even played along with posing for the photos for my blog. We spent the whole afternoon filling up on sandwiches and cakes washed down with lashings on tea and champagne whilst the pianist played in the background leaving us in a zen like zombie state.

If you’re looking for a little treat or something special to do when visiting London I couldn’t recommend this afternoon tea enough. If you want to try and grab yourself bargain I know that voucher websites have offers on afternoon tea all the time.
